Today's tip is a follow-up to Janet's question yesterday about how to effectively facilitate meetings.
During the meeting, monitor group interaction and contribution. Work toward participation from everyone without insisting on it. Think of various ways people can contribute besides just talking - maybe try written responses.
Ask open-ended questions to encourage participation. Use phrases such as "tell us more about..." to encourage additional contribution.
Remember to listen carefully to the person speaking while monitoring the nonverbal behavior of others. Be alert to signs of discomfort and identify and manage concern or confusion by noting it.
