Lindsay asked, "My coworker recently suffered the loss of a loved one. Even though we have a good business relationship, I don't feel comfortable addressing her. How do I interact with her when she returns to work?"
The loss of a loved one is an unfortunate incident and can be difficult to address.
Don't be afraid of reaching out. When your coworker returns to work, talk to her. Instead of saying "how are you", choose phrases such as "it is good to see you". Remember, the way you present yourself visually and vocally is more important than the words you say. Once you establish a pleasant environment, the words of sincerity will not be awkward or uncomfortable.
