It has been said that the most important thing you wear is the expression on your face.
Mary tells Tero that people say she often looks upset. She says, "I'm not upset, I guess I'm just not a natural smiler."
Most of us are unaware of the message our facial expression is communicating to those around us. This is especially true when we find ourselves in a stressful setting such as when we are asked to speak to a group of people or chair a meeting.
A smile humanizes you and your message. A smile relaxes you and others.
What if the message you are delivering is a serious one? It will be difficult to emphasize serious points if you maintain a serious facial expression throughout. Consider varying your facial expression to match your message and challenge yourself to smile more often.
