Laura has been corresponding with a Korean client via email for almost one month. Last week, seemingly out of the blue, the client became unresponsive to her emails. "What can I do to resolve this communication setback?" she asks.

Laura, this is a concern that can be addressed in several different ways. Cultural differences can affect communication and hinder the process. Relationship orientation, hierarchy concerns, and non linear view of time are all illustrations of potential differences that can affect email communication.

Address the client respectfully assuming that there is a value difference. Don't assign intent based on your cultural values.
