Blind Copying on Email

Professional Polish Tip from Carlos Alvarez

"The other day I received a message from a team member who bcc'd me, or blind copied me, on the message. I was a little confused and did not understand why this communication came to me. When is it okay to blind copy someone in an email and what is the appropriate protocol?" Shiloh asks.

It may be better to forward a note with an explanation of why and what you need that individual to know. This will allow you to clarify the message and also explain the actions needed.

When you blind copy an individual you may encounter the recipient responding to the wrong person.

Simply sending a message with no explanation can cause frustration and possibly destroy trust and cause confusion.

Everyone deserves to know their audience in any communication.
