There are many benefits that training can bring to an organization. You know it will help position and prepare your aspiring leaders to be better in delegating and coaching team members. You recognize it helps reduce conflict and build more collaborative and successful interactions. You are aware training helps team members know how to work with each other in a team environment. Unfortunately, your organization may not be in a position to put a priority on training, due to tight budgets or slow growth. Below are two options you might qualify for if your business or organization is located in Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas or Missori. If you are outside of these states, we encourage you to check with your local State Goverment offices for programs that might apply to you.
Below are two NO COST options that provide supplemental funding support if you qualify:
260E funds - The 260 e, or the Iowa New Jobs Training Program, supports businesses adding employees through expansion, or relocation, to Iowa. This program allows your company, in consultation with the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Business Resources (DBR) experts, to implement an effective training program for your new employees. The goal is to build skills for your new employees to become productive. There is NO cost to your business with the 260E program.
How can this program work? The certificates are repaid by your business over a ten-year period by diverting a portion of your payroll taxes from the State of Iowa to DMACC. Your company can then use the funds in this account to pay for the new employee training. The amount diverted depends on the portion of your payroll taxes from the State of Iowa to DMACC. The amount diverted is based on the wages of the new jobs your company has added.
To be eligible for the 260E program, your business must currently be:
Creating new Iowa positions
Locating to or expanding in Iowa
Providing services in interstate commerce
Conducting business in manufacturing, processing, assembling products, or research and development

TAAC Funds - The Mid-America Trade Adjustment Assistance Center (TAAC) is another organization that provides funding as sponsored through the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration. This organization helps manufacturers specifically in Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri. The goal is to equip U.S. manufacturers to proactively respond to import competition.
How does the program work? TAAF partners with your manufacturing organization by offering cost share funding up to $150,000 (50% company match) or $30,000 (25 percent company match) to help implement projects (including training) that are focused on improving the firm's internal operations and competitive abilities. The TAAC has experienced professionals who work collaboratively with you through each phase of the project.
Basic parameters or qualifications for entering the program include:
There is a minimum of 5% decline in sales and employment, at least partially due to import competition.

While there are stipulations, and applications to complete before funding is approved, these are two excellent funding opportunities to help build leadership and team member skills for the success of your organization.
